“海外中国昆虫学者协会 ”(Overseas Chinese Entomologists Association, OCEA)是由在美国的华人昆虫学者于1998年11月发起成立的学术组织，并于2000年在美国正式注册为非盈利性组织。其宗旨是团结海外的华人昆虫学者及组织，促进海外华人昆虫学者之间的学术交流，增进海外与大陆的昆虫学者之间的交流与合作，为昆虫学科的发展和进步做出贡献。
OCEA自成立以来正在逐步发展，现有会员主要集中在北美洲地区，部分会员已在大学或科研机构提任为实验室项目主持人。目前OCEA已与中国昆虫学会建立业务联系，可望今后在学术交流、人才培养、合作研究等方面，为国内外中国昆虫学者间的联系发挥桥梁作用。
- OCEA 成员中每年从美国国家自然科学资金、美国农业部研究资金、美国国家健康研究院所申请到的科研资金达数百万美元；
- OCEA成员中曾在《自然》、《科学》、《PNAS》等国际刊物上发表文章；
- OCEA成员中有多人在国际学术组织或机构中任职；
- OCEA 成员中有多人担任学术期刊的编委；
- OCEA每年都有成员在ESA年会上组织主持Symposium。是海外昆虫学界的一支重要力量。
Introduction and History
Overseas Chinese Entomologists Association (OCEA) is a non-profit organization to promote communication and collaboration among Chinese entomologists around the world. Since its establishment in 1998, OCEA has annual meeting each year, which takes place during the annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America. OCEA is registered as a not-for profit organization in the state of Michigan in July 2000. Currently, OCEA has around 200 members.
Mission
- OCEA cooperates with interested individuals as well as organizations around the world to promote the science of entomology;
- OCEA seeks to facilitate information exchange among Chinese entomologists and between Chinese and non-Chinese Entomologists;
- OCEA promotes academic exchange related to the science of entomology between China and the outside world in general, and the U.S. in particular;
- OCEA provides academic-oriented services for all involved.
Membership
OCEA is an association of volunteers and its membership is unrestricted. Individuals applying for membership shall agree to recognize and abide by the OCEA Bylaws and pay annual membership fee.
Members shall be entitled to the right to participate in elections for any elected office; the right to participate in the decision-making process by freely expressing opinions, making proposals, or voting if so required; the right to know through access to available information; the right to serve or to be served in OCEA-sponsored programs; the right to enjoy all additional privileges and benefits that OCEA may offer.
OCEA members shall obey the rules and honor the spirits, principles and procedures of democratic operations, and shall be willing to contribute to the realization of the goals set forth in OCEA bylaws.
OCEA Governing Board and Officers
The governing structure of OCEA consists of the Executive Board and the Advisory Board. The Executive Board is the executive branch of OCEA. It is composed of the President, the President-elect, the immediate-past President, the Treasurer and the Secretary. Functional divisions, working committees, special projects within OCEA may be created or dissolved through written notices by the Executive Board.
The President shall serve as the chair of the Board. The term of the president shall be one year with re-election for a maximum of two consecutive terms. Three officers, President, Vice-president, and Treasurer, are elected at OCEA annual meeting each year.

Awards and Honors
Each year, OCEA presents 3 awards to member graduate students for their best student papers presented at ESA annual meeting. The main purposes of the award are to recognize students for their outstanding graduate dissertation/thesis research and encourage them to attend OCEA annual meeting.
